I am originally from a small town in southeast Iowa and have been in the KC area for 13 ½ years. My wife, Becky, and I have 2 boys, Gabe and Nolan. I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in finance. I began working with Banc of America Investments in 2002 until 2009 when I moved my practice to LPL Financial.

A charitable cause I care most about is: I have two. I sit on the board and am the chairman of the investment committee for El Centro Inc. I am active in the Kansas City Plaza Rotary Club, where I serve as a board member and sit on the KC Games for Good committee. The KC Games for Good is sort of like a corporate challenge for nonprofits. My role is to create the games that the teams compete in.
The best and worst purchase I ever made was: Worst purchase was a cheap charcoal grill. I used it twice and will never use it again. Best purchase was my Cole Haan dress shoes. I could run a marathon in these shoes.
If I could have a superpower, I’d choose: My favorite superhero is Superman so I have to go with the ability to fly.
One thing I’ve done that I’m most proud of is: I made it through my 30s. Transitioning my business to a new firm, my wife starting a new career as an attorney, the birth of my boys, my youngest having brain surgery at seven months old, moving to a new neighborhood and school district. A client told me once, “No one makes it through their 30s without challenges.” She was spot on.
A life hack I’m surprised most people don’t know is: You can open a bottle of wine with just a shoe.
The person who inspires me most is: I love a good underdog story.
My favorite family tradition is: Decorating the Christmas tree on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

I am originally from Indonesia, but also a long time resident of Lenexa, KS. I attended the University of Kansas where I received a Bachelor degree in Allied Health and Nursing and spent most of my young adult life in a hospital setting as a caregiver. It was here that I developed a deeply rooted understanding of the stresses and joys as a caregiver. Most caregivers fail to care for themselves first, which motivated me to study financial planning. Ultimately, this led to a decision to change careers. In 2007, I completed the Certificate in Financial Planning Program from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Craig, and our dog, Ozzie.
The last book I read was: Finding Your Own North Star by Martha Beck. This book transformed my life and gave me the courage to be me in a totally different environment than my upbringing.

When I retire, you will find me: Doing more volunteer work as Johnson County Master Gardener, which I started doing in my 30’s with the thought, “it requires so much knowledge, I’d better start when I still have all my faculties intact.” My favorite activity was giving gardening classes and having conversations with area gardeners on how to improve our air, water and soil quality via gardening and composting.

One thing I’ve done that I’m most proud of is: Simply being a solid husband for my wife, Katherine, and a dedicated father to Christian. I am a good son to my mother, helping her to age-in-place.
A life hack I’m surprised most people don’t know is: It’s about people. I think most people are awake and realize our purpose is to serve each other with as much authentic joy as possible. For those who don’t know it yet, this is the primary life-hack for finding happiness.
The person who inspires me most is: My wife, Katherine. We make a great team, and she continues to surprise me with the new things she learns and puts to use. She is incredibly humble, and I am so lucky to have her in my life. There is no one I am more comfortable spending time with than her. We can be together in complete silence and manage to have a splendid time. We don’t always have to be planning what’s next. We can be in the here-and-now most of the time. This quality is oh so precious and rare.
My favorite family tradition is: Reading aloud stories or books to each other. Also, watching old movies together.
Someone should make an app for: Ha…finding the nearest toilet when you are away from home and nature urgently calls. With the “Internet of Things” and G5 wireless on the way, we should even have an app that tells us stall-seat availability <wink>
